Cassie Monahon

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

Cassie holds a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Family Institute at Northwestern University, where she received extensive clinical training working with individuals, couples, and families from various backgrounds on a wide array of issues. Prior to her experience at Northwestern, Cassie attended Bucknell University where she played Division I Field Hockey and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. After college, Cassie worked at large, global companies for eight years in New York and Chicago, specializing in executive development. The decision to pivot careers from the corporate world to the mental health profession was an intentional decision after witnessing how an individual’s personal life is blended with their professional and/or athletic life and the impact it has on their relationships with themselves and others. Cassie’s personal passion for psychology and her integrative training allows her to bring a holistic lens and empathetic approach to the therapy room.

As a former competitive athlete and someone who was working her way up the corporate ladder before pivoting, Cassie understands the various pressures and the expectations placed on and of oneself. Cassie brings warmth, empathy, and curiosity to the therapy room, while also fostering an environment of accountability and honest feedback. As a therapist, Cassie likes to meet her clients where they are when they walk into the first session and work with each client at their own pace. In collaboration, Cassie and her clients work to break down problems by understanding the origins and creating goals for therapy. Together, the client and Cassie will identify constraints and explore the barriers preventing the client from reaching their desired outcome. Then utilizing the client’s strengths and Cassie’s support, the ultimate goal is always to find and implement solutions for the purpose of alleviating conflict or stress and creating an environment for long-lasting personal and relational growth.

Cassie has experience working with individual clients with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity development, trauma, ADHD, perfectionism, eating disorders and substance abuse. She also worked with families and couples on communication, infidelity, parenting, balancing personal and professional life and more. Her specific areas of focus include navigating life and career transitions, anxiety, depression, couples working on communication, work/life balance, coping strategies for overcoming unwanted habits, and family conflict. Her methods include cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness.

Outside of sessions, Cassie likes to practice what she preaches and spends time focusing on her own mental and physical health through cooking new healthy recipes, workout classes, reading, listening to books on long walks, playing racket sports, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
